Insurance and coverage

Massachusetts law

Massachusetts requires many insurers to cover IVF (law effective 1987) -- none (no dollar/cycle cap).

Massachusetts law requires coverage of fertility preservation before treatment that can cause infertility, such as cancer treatment (effective 2024).

Accepted insurance

Check your own plan's IVF benefit; accepting an insurer does not mean every plan covers IVF.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (POS)
  • Cigna (HMO)
  • Harvard Pilgrim (PPO)
  • Humana (Medicare Advantage PPO Only)
  • MultiPlan (PPO)
  • UnitedHealthcare (POS)

What insurers pay this clinic

These are rates insurers have agreed to pay the clinic. They are not your cost and are not part of the prices above.

  • CignaIVF case rate: $4,842 to $6,840Sum of rates for IVF services: $916 to $22,592
  • UnitedHealthcareSum of rates for IVF services: $1,457 to $15,480

A negotiated rate is what the insurer has agreed to pay the clinic for a billed service, not the patient's cost; the patient's share depends on the plan's IVF benefit, deductible and coinsurance. A clinic in the insurer's network file with no IVF billing codes suggests the plan likely excludes IVF.
